About the Vice Chancellor
Prof. Ravichandiran V., Vice Chancellor, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, New Delhi and Former Founder Director, NIPER Kolkata and Former Director In-charge of NIPER Hajipur having 28 years of teaching, research and administrative experience. His research is focused to utilization of animal models for the evaluation of efficacy of Natural Products and understanding its mechanism of action; development of Pharmaceutical Products from the natural sources and semi-synthetic process development for making affordable medicines. He is passionate about translating the results of his research into products.
He has utilized various techniques including pharmacological models, molecular & cellular, regenerative medicine, multi-omics, CRISPR-Cas system and imaging technologies to answer his research work problems. He is instrumental for setting three CoEs such as continuous manufacturing, biological therapeutics and marine therapeutics. He is actively involved as pharmaceutical consultant for mid size pharmaceutical companies.
Under his guidance, the faculty are developed oral complex dosage forms for the management of IBD within two years span of time. He has published 162 publications with an H-index of 33; i10 index-125; with citation of 5815 and 15 patents. He mentored 21 PhD scholars and 3 post-doctoral candidates. He has completed five projects funded by AICTE, ICMR, DST & DBT.
He is leading a multi institutional project “Centre for Marine Therapeutics” as a Centre Coordinator and Principal Investigator which is jointly funded by DST and Department of Pharmaceuticals. He also established “Centre for Nucleic Acid Therapeutics process development funded Chemical Therapeutics Program of DST” to treat DMD rare diseases.
He has extended a research consultancy to various industries includes Natreon Inc, Kolkata; Tablet India Pvt. Ltd, Chennai; Inventz Life Science Pvt. Ltd., Chennai and Biogreen Remedies Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad.
He is a Chairman of Task Force Committee of DPRP Projects, DST, India; Member - CCRAS, Ministry of AYUSH; DoP nominee for Rare Diseases program, ICMR-DoHR and for NEP2020, MoE; He is also elected member of various Central, State Universities and Pharmacy Council.
He has specific expertise in the area of preclinical studies for drug discovery and development. He has been involved in development of various animals' models of human diseases (NASH, diabetic, cognition impairment) for Pharmacological screening of various drug candidates and natural products including our Indian traditional medicines. Proteomics/peptide mapping tool has been utilized to generate evidence-based medicine from natural sources and to ensure the efficacy of phytomedicine therapy.
His expertise disease areas include inflammatory disorders such as metabolic syndrome mediated liver diseases and neuronal disorders including cognitive decline. His major focus is on metabolic disorder/disease progression leading to various cancers. His present interest is to delineate the interaction between gut microbiota and various organ systems and their disorders.
He is also screening various phytoconstituents against inflammatory bowel disease and developing Phytopharmaceuticals for treating IBD and hepatitis. He has established whole animal imaging facility comprises of Animal Imager and Microcity first time in Eastern India in order to promote non-invasive, in-vivo behaving of small experimental animals using bioluminescence and Fluorescence with high resolution and specificity. The facility has/can be utilized for better understanding of disease progression, pharmacological assays and tumorigeneicity over a longer period of time.
